HIV/AIDS in Prison

This is a very low-tech site intended to provide links and information about HIV/AIDS in prison. It's primarily based on my doctoral research and on several years of activist experience in this field. You can contact me at rachel.maddow@lincoln.ox.ac.uk.

Read the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's excellent, and controversial, September 1998 special report on Correctional Medical Services, Inc.

HIV InSite's Prison Page
HIV Insite is another HIV/AIDS "super-site" operated by the University of California at San Francisco. Their prison site links to prison-related info in the "AIDS Knowledge Base" on-line textbook, as well as other documents and sites. Also a very useful tool for searching recent news documents about HIV/AIDS and prison.

The abstracts database is a near-comprehensive source of academic and industry documents in criminal justice.

National Archive of Criminal Justice Documents
Maintained by the University of Michigan. I recommend using it in conjunction with the NCJRS abstract database.

Organizing around medical care, HIV/AIDS care and prevention, control units, and other issues affecting California women prisoners.

Useful for its thorough list of HIV/AIDS-related mail-lists and newsgroups.

Based in the UK. Especially useful for its archive of Dr Fax - critical (but definitely not layman's) treatment biweekly.

UNAIDS

Hepatitis C is a major epidemic behind bars, and poses a special threat to prisoners with HIV. The Hepatitis Information Network is a good place to start for information about Hep C and other forms of Hepatitis.
