Dear Rachel Maddow – you are great on many issues, but foreign policy does not seem to be one of them, at least not as relating to our Latin American neighbors. Tuesday night, your disdain for not only Chavez, but the free will of the Venezuelan people is hugely disappointing. Your comments betrayed ignorance and xenophobia. I wish I didn’t feel the need to type those words, but I don’t know how else to describe what I felt as I heard your words.
Your segment on Chavez’s death is a perfect example of what some call “Progressive Imperialism”.
I mean, you’re overt concern regarding Venezuela’s oil reserves actually makes you look like a Bush neocon.
P.S. Eugene Robinson doesn’t know much about Latin America. I literally laughed out loud at some parts of his “analysis.” You definitely need to talk to an actual Latin American, and not a right-winger or Miami expat to learn about the reality of the Americas.
